The Woopiecushions have not been on top since they won the league 4 years ago, but they are back. They beat high scoring Big Red at their own game, winning the shootout 115 to 109. The Cushions let loose with 30+ points from each of their backs, Jamal Lewis (4 TDs) and probable rookie of the year, Adrian Peterson (NFL record 296 yards rushing). Derek Anderson, Wes Welker, and another rookie, Patrick Willis combined for another 30. Big Red has got to be disappointed in their defense. They put up the second highest total of the week in the loss. Addai, Hasselbeck, Engram, Randy Moss, Marion Barber, and the Pack combined for 7 TDs, 4 100 yard rushing/receiving games, and a 300 yard passing game. A great outing, but just not enough.
The Scuds got their second win in a row stopping Ballin's 6 game winning streak (Favre). Jeff Garcia, Brees' new favorite target, David Patton, TD man, Santonio Holmes, and Raider backup Fargas each scored in double digits for the Scuds who are crawling out of the depths to make some noise. (Favre) The injury bug bit hard on Ballin'. Cutler barely played and Gore sat out leaving a potential 17 on the bench. TO and Tony Gonzalez had good games and the Pittsburgh defense scored 18 to make it close, but Scuds prevailed moving Ballin' down to third place. (Favre)
The BOB (Brady Only Bunch) was handed their second straight loss as the Raiders start to make their move in the rankings. The Raiders were led by Peyton (12) and McDonald (10), but getting Julius Jones (9) in the end zone was the clincher that got them over the top. Not that it was a mountain that they had to climb. Brady had 19, but the rest of the bunch amounted to a mole hill as 6 players had less than 3 for the BOB who realizes now the error of being a one man team and has renamed themselves Back to Cali 2. We'll see how that works for them.
The Ogres are working their way into the playoff hunt with a 40 point hosing of the Homies. Just shy of the century mark, the Ogres were led by injured Big Ben's 34. Greg Jennings hung out in the end zone for another 17 and the Falcon D and Ahman Green had 11 and 10 to contribute. That was more than enough to overwhelm the Homies. Earnest Graham had 13, but other than that it was a lack luster day for most of the team. Heath Miller and McNabb did find the end zone, but didn't make much else happen for A-Town.
Reavers blew up again, this time for 107 points to trounce his traveling companion, Spit 'n Polish. JP had 10 before being dropped. Lee Evans has returned (16) as have teh Saints' D (14), but the RBs Westbrook and rookie Lynch combined for 35 to lead the group. Hackett and Witten also score TDs to total 7 for Reavers who only had 2 players with less than 8 points. Spit had nice plays with Burleson (13), Reggie Bush (17) and LenDale (10), but when Sage is starting for you and your IDP doesn't play, you are in bad shape. Spit (or, now, the team formerly known as Spit) can chalk it up to the byes (though some of us think it might not have made a difference).
Don't look now, but
Clovis is starting a run here.
They now own the second longest winning streak at 3 games with the Illini the latest victim.
Clovis piled up 103 points including a monster (29) game from the Lion D.
Huard,
Dayne, Leon Washington, Galloway, and Bironas each scored over 10 for a very balanced attack.
The Illini didn't go down without a fight (which we suspected might happen).
Brees led with another bg game, 26.
Late pickup
Crosby kicked for 18 and Reggie Williams had 13 to give the Illini a very respectable showing against a very hot team.
Harmony may have name power in the lineup, but the team is not doing well. The Ghostriders beat up on the hurtin' 'Billies. Romo, Portis, and the Titan D combined for 56 which was almost enough in itself to topple the Hill 'o Beans. Harmony did have Palmer getting 15 and Larry Johnson had his best game of the year with 16, but LT was the only other player to find the end zone and could not even muster 10 points. The WR corps for the 'Billies continues to be horrible. They barely broke 3 points if you don't count their tackles.
