Week 3: The Top Teams Roll

Big Red solidified his place atop the CCFFL standings blowing out Spit 'n Polish. The names are getting familiar, Barber, Addai, Moss, Hasselbeck each had 16-19 points, Rackers had 15 and Cooley found the end zone as well to propel the Big Red machine over 100 points for the third straight week. Spit fell victim to another less than stellar outing from Eli. Burress and Lendale White each had TDs and Bush had 2 to lead Spit in their 111 - 69 loss.

Back to CALI only managed 82 points in their effort to stay 3-0, but the it was more than enough to win and demoralize the now 0-3 Ghostriders. Brady had 4 TDs for 29 points in his best games of the year. Stover kicked for 16 and both Benson and Coles hit pay dirt to carry CALI. Ghostriders got a TD from Portis (who was on the sidelines while the Redskins failed to get in the end zone on another occasion). TJ had a big day with a TD and 100+ yards. Romo had 2 TDs for 17, but the rest of the team was terrible. Things are so difficult for the Ghosts that Larry Johnson and Antonio Pierce were led into the GM's office after the game and told to pack their bags for Harmony in exchange for Briggs and Curtis who you will hear about later.

The Ogres lit the scoreboard with 89 with everyone except Heap and the injured Ahman Green contributing at least 7.9. Roy Williams, the Eagle D, and DeMeco Ryans lead the scoring, but it was a team effort that crushed the Illini and kept the Ogres undefeated. The Illini got a very solid 15 from LaMont Jordan and Alge scored a TD as well, but the Brees blew out with a 4 int night for -5 points. Ward and Steven Jackson were injured in the loss, though Jackson did break 100 yards. The Illini are 1-2 and are clearly not pleased with the performances that they have been seeing. In order to shake things up they sent the struggling, injured Steven Jackson and the underused Santana Moss to Harmony for Thomas Jones and Darrell Jackson. We'll see how that pans out.

The Woopiecushions showed that they are for real getting their second win and the Scuds (0-3) are misfiring badly. It was the defensive game of the weak (ok, week). The Cushions were led by Delhomme (14) and the sneaky pick-up Adrian Peterson (12). Kicker Folk and the Pats D each added 10 on their way to 68. The Scuds wished desperately that they had started their bench. Kasey kicked for 11, the Ravens got 9, but.... Foster's 19, Burleson's 10, and Mason's 9.95 were left of the bench. Even Culpepper' 2.36 was better than Bulger's inept -3. the Scuds (then Bullets) looked good after the draft, but with Jacobs out, Bulger, Maroney, and Henderson laying eggs weekly, it's been rough for the reign champs.

Ballin' moves into 4th place atop the 2-1 teams by takin' it to the Raiders. Straight even left Favre and his 26 points on the bench just to make it fair. IT was the Steeler D's 17 that sparked Ballin'. Braylon Edwards got into the end zone again for 11, but having only 2 players under 4.5 got them up to their 75 point total. The Raiders? Vinatieri and Manning got their 11 and 12, McDonald caught another TD and Gates was over 100 yards, but 5 players under 3 points sank 'em to 1-2

Nobody was paying attention to what the Homie Avatar was wearing as they battled with Harmony. Everyone was watching McNabb put up 30 points for the Homies. Amazingly that didn't help the Homies because he threw 30 points worth to the Hillbillies' Kevin Curtis. The game was really decided by Driver's 13, Fletcher's 12 compared with Bruce and Briggs who were injured and scored less than 3. LT did get 10 points for Harmony. Harmony is blaming this loss on the medical crew who could not fix their players fast enough. Calvin Johnson, Bruce and Briggs (combined 5.5 points) all spent more than 1/2 the game out. Harmony GM is tired of the losing that has characterized the organization in recent times. After only 4 wins in the last 17 weeks, they made 2 block buster moves. No, not dropping Leinart. Leading rusher Thomas Jones, leading receiver (one hit wonder) Kevin Curtis, absent Darrell Jackson, and injured Lance Briggs are all out as under achieving, but talented Larry Johnson, Santana Moss, injured Steven Jackson, and Antonio Pierce come in.

Finally there was a shoot-out at the O.K. for a couple of surprise teams. Clovis was the hard luck team this week, scoring 103 and still losing to Reavers, who set the season high mark with 120. The stars aligned for Reavers who were lead by Brian Westbrook who had 31 points (when was the last time a team had 3 players over 30 points in the same week??). Kitna had 400+ yards for 15 points, Reed, Ruud, Witten, and Vincent Jackson each went over 10 and Branch had a TD as well in the high scoring affair. The Conical had yet to get anything going this season also had a 31 point rusher in Ronnie Brown. Boldin caught 22 and Young passed for 14. Had any two of Colston (3), Galloway (2), Hanson (3), and the Rams(3) really shown up, both teams might have broken the single game mark of 117 points. Sadly, Clovis drops to 0-3 after a great performance.
